Italy, and in particular UNITO - University of Torino, is worldwide recognized for its research on insect topics, while nowadays there are still few insect companies. However, several start-ups are springing up, a symptom of the great interest in the subject.
We believe that hosting IFW 2026 in Torino will yield advantages for both Italian and the European industry and research sector. It can elevate the visibility of the insect industry in Italy, Europe and beyond, generating interest and investment in insect farming and related technologies.
This increased exposure can lead to new partnerships, funding opportunities, and advancements in research and development within the field.
Our overall objective of the IFW 2026 conference is multifaceted, aiming at advancing the insect sector as a whole, to address various aspects of both insect rearing and use of insect-derived products as sustainable nutrient sources for human and animal feed, fertilisers and other technical purposes.
Some potential objectives in hosting the event include:
1. To facilitate the exchange of scientific research, practical experiences, and technological advancements related to insect-based products production and use (Knowledge Exchange).
2. To provide a platform for industry professionals, researchers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to network, collaborate, and explore potential partnerships in the insect-based products sector (Industry Networking).
3. To discuss market trends, challenges, and opportunities for scaling up insect-based products production and commercialization (Market Development).
4. To identify and discuss key research gaps and priorities in insect farming (i.e. insect welfare, consumers and stakeholder’s education…), processing, and uses to support further advancements in the field (Research Prioritization).
5. To advocate for supportive policies and regulations (in Italy but not only) that encourage the adoption and expansion of insect-derivates production and usage (Policy Advocacy).
6. To showcase innovative technologies, products, and solutions in insect farming and processing (Innovation Showcase).
7. To highlight successful case studies of business and initiatives using insects in food and feed production. Share best practices in insect farming, processing, and marketing to support the growth of the industry (Share best practices and success stories).
